IT Mentoring Service

Provides an impartial and experienced 'sounding board' relationship for IT managment that is centred on trust and confidentiality.  As a mentor, we are a "guide by the side, not a sage on the stage".  The service is designed to help protégés express their ideas and concerns in a non-judgemental environment and leverage the experience of our mentor.  Sometimes it just takes a simple " That's a good idea, but have you thought of..." questioning statement.  As a guide (mentor), metaphorically we know:

  1. What to pack for the journey (patience, learning tools, expertise)
  2. Where to get additional supplies (information, skills, opportunities, strategic alliance)
  3. How to make the journey a fruitful one (provide suggestions / recommendations)
  4. Which areas of the landscape to survey and areas to avoid (distractions from goals)

Quote of the Week...

Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.  Talent will not; nothing is more common that unsuccessful people with talent.  Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.  Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.  Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.  The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race". - Calvin Coolidge

IT Governance Concern Grows...

A recent survey of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) highlighted their ten main IT concerns.  IT Governance entered the list for the first time with a bullet at number 4.  It shot right past other concerns such as Privacy Management, Digital Authentication and WIreless Technologies. Top of the list not surprisingly, for the past 4 years, was Information Security followed closely by Assurance and Compliance Applications and  Disaster and Business Continuity Planning.

IT Management Framework Tips...

A good IT management framework means good processes are in place thus avoiding the "re-inventing the wheel" syndrome which helps reduce risks and errors and improve quality.  This can only increase the trust and confidence that senior management has in their IT function. It's a win-win for all concerned...
